Drückebergergasse

Drückebergergasse is a narrow, nondescript alleyway tucked between the back of the Munich Residenz and the Theatine Church. During the Third Reich, locals used this passage to avoid passing the Feldherrnhalle, where a guard stood posted to demand the Hitler salute. By ducking through this shortcut, pedestrians bypassed the monument and the guards altogether. The name itself derives from the German verb for shirking or ducking away, mocking those who used the path to dodge an unwanted political demonstration.
