Alte Stadtmauer

A single stretch of heavy, weathered stone topped with wooden walkways remains of the wall that once ringed medieval Munich. The Graggenau district was the city’s early heart, and this section of the fortification protected the wealthy merchants living behind the moat. In eighteen zero four, the city began tearing down its perimeter to clear space for modern boulevards. Most of the stone was sold for scrap, but this remnant survived because it became part of a residential building that still stands today.
