A pink granite triangle set flush into the cobblestones marks this corner of the Hackenviertel. It is the memorial to the lesbians and gay men persecuted by the Nazis in Munich. During the nineteen thirties, the Gestapo used the city's police files to systematically track and arrest people under Paragraph One Hundred Seventy-five, the law criminalizing homosexuality. Many were sent to concentration camps, where they were forced to wear pink triangles to identify them to guards and other prisoners.
