Alter Hof

historic

The Alter Hof features a sharp, pointed gable and a dry moat that separates it from the bustling streets of Munich. This complex served as the first residence for the Wittelsbach dukes in the thirteenth century. Ludwig the Bavarian made it his seat of power after he became Holy Roman Emperor in thirteen twenty-eight. A fire destroyed much of the interior during the second world war, but the stone walls still hold the ghosts of the city's royal beginnings.
