House of Art

The Haus der Kunst is a low, limestone-clad structure with a long row of heavy pillars facing the park. Adolf Hitler commissioned the building in nineteen thirty-three to showcase what he called true German art, choosing Paul Ludwig Troost as the architect. When the gallery opened four years later, the exhibition spaces were filled with the preferred classical styles of the Third Reich. It remains today one of the few buildings from that era that still serves its original purpose as an art museum.
