Museum Brandhorst

Thirty-six thousand ceramic rods in twenty-three different colors sheath the exterior of Museum Brandhorst. The facade appears to shift in tone and intensity depending on the angle of the sun and the movement of a pedestrian along the street. Udo and Anette Brandhorst spent decades collecting contemporary art, specifically focusing on the works of Cy Twombly and Andy Warhol. They chose the architects Sauerbruch Hutton to design a container for this massive private collection, which opened to the public in two thousand nine.
