Frauenkirche

The Frauenkirche is defined by its two rounded copper onion domes, which rise above the Munich skyline and stand nearly three hundred feet tall. Duke Sigismund commissioned the brick cathedral in fourteen sixty-eight, tasking architect Jörg von Halsbach with finishing the structure in just twenty years. During the building process, legend says the architect made a deal with the Devil to ensure the project’s rapid completion, provided the church contained no windows. He tricked the Devil by hiding the windows behind massive interior columns.
