Pinakothek der Moderne

The Pinakothek der Moderne is a massive, light-filled concrete cube defined by a soaring central rotunda topped with a glass dome. It houses four independent collections covering art, architecture, design, and works on paper. Architect Stephan Braunfels designed the building to unify these disciplines under one roof after years of fragmented displays across Munich. When the doors opened in two thousand two, the state’s collection of modern art finally found a permanent home, ending decades of uncertainty about where these works would live.
