Kabelsteg

The Kabelsteg is a narrow, iron pedestrian bridge that spans the Isar River, easily identified by its distinctive arched trusses and riveted metal construction. Built in eighteen ninety-nine, it served as a utility crossing for gas and water pipes, hence the name cable bridge. Workers once regularly climbed the narrow catwalks to maintain the lines while the public squeezed past them on the deck. Today, it offers a direct path between the city streets and the green expanse of the Maximiliansanlagen.
