St. Peter's Church & Tower

St. Peter's Church features a heavy, bronze-colored spire that anchors the oldest parish in Munich. Locals call it the Alter Peter, and its foundation stone dates back to the twelfth century. During the second world war, bombs reduced the interior to rubble, leaving only the outer walls and the tower standing. When workers cleared the debris, they discovered medieval frescoes buried under layers of soot and plaster. Today, the bells in that tower still ring out across the central market every day.
