Neue Pfarrkirche St. Johann Baptist

Two slender, red-brick spires rise above the Haidhausen skyline, reaching over ninety meters in height. This is the Neue Pfarrkirche Saint Johann Baptist, a neo-Gothic structure completed in eighteen seventy-four. Architect Matthias Berger designed the church to accommodate the neighborhood's rapid population growth. During the final weeks of the Second World War, American artillery fire heavily damaged the west tower. Residents spent years clearing the rubble, eventually restoring the structure to its original nineteenth-century silhouette.
