Wehrsteg

landmark

The Wehrsteg is a narrow, steel-truss footbridge painted a distinctive, muted green that spans the Isar River. It serves as a vital connection between the residential district of Lehel and the lush expanse of the Englischer Garten. Built in nineteen forty-eight, it replaced a structure destroyed during the final weeks of the second world war. Local residents used the wreckage of the old crossing to scramble across the river for years until this current, modest span finally restored their daily path.
