Eisbachwelle

The Eisbachwelle is a stationary river wave created where the Eisbach stream rushes out of a concrete tunnel into the southern edge of the Englischer Garten. For decades, surfers have lined up on the bank to take turns carving turns in the cold, fast-moving water. In two thousand ten, the city officially legalized surfing here after years of tension. Even in the dead of winter, surfers wait their turn in line while wearing thick neoprene wetsuits to battle the freezing Alpine runoff.
