The Pfistermühle occupies a pair of limestone buildings characterized by their steep, stepped gables and deep yellow plaster. Long before diners arrived for gourmet meals, these structures housed the royal court bakery. In the sixteenth century, the Wittelsbach dukes needed massive amounts of bread to supply their nearby residence. Bakers operated heavy millstones powered by a branch of the Isar river that once flowed directly underneath the mill floor. Grain dust filled the air while workers hauled sacks from the water's edge.
