Radlsteg

The Radlsteg is a narrow, pedestrian footbridge spanning the narrow channel of the Isar River known as the Wehrsteg. It connects the quiet Graggenau district to the busier side of the city with a simple, arched steel structure. During the nineteen seventies, the city planners debated replacing it with a wider concrete road bridge to speed up traffic flow. Local residents staged a week of protests to block the construction crews, insisting the bridge remain a path strictly for walkers and cyclists.
