St. Ludwig München

St. Ludwig sits at the end of Ludwigstrasse, distinguished by two massive, rounded towers covered in colorful, patterned tiles. It was the first church in Munich built in the Italian Romanesque style, commissioned by King Ludwig the First in the eighteen twenties to establish a new architectural aesthetic for his capital. Inside, the massive fresco of the Last Judgment by Peter von Cornelius covers the altar wall, a work so vast that critics argued it made the church feel more like a gallery.
