St. Paul's Church

St. Paul’s Church is a circular, red-sandstone building topped by a plain, white-stucco dome. While it looks like a church, it has not held a religious service since nineteen forty-four. It became a secular hall after the first all-German parliament gathered there in eighteen forty-eight to draft a democratic constitution. During the war, Allied bombs gutted the interior, but locals saved the outer walls from demolition. Today, the space hosts the annual Peace Prize of the German Book Trade instead of Sunday sermons.
