The Liebieghaus occupies a villa built in eighteen ninety-six for the Bohemian textile industrialist Heinrich von Liebieg. Its most distinct feature is the steep, white-stuccoed tower topped by a dark, pyramidal roof that rises above the surrounding garden walls. Baron von Liebieg commissioned the house to display his extensive collection of sculptures, but he died only eight years after moving in. The city of Frankfurt purchased the property shortly after, and it has housed the municipal sculpture collection ever since.
