Guiollett-Denkmal

The Guiollett-Denkmal is an obelisk of red sandstone tucked behind a high iron fence on the Taunusanlage. It marks the legacy of Jakob Guiollett, a Frankfurt mayor who directed the transformation of the city’s medieval defensive walls into the green park belt that still rings the center today. When the city dismantled its fortifications in the early nineteenth century, Guiollett ensured the public kept the land for recreation. A vandal once hacked off the bust of his likeness, leaving the plinth bare.
