Märchenbrunnen

The Märchenbrunnen, or Fairy Tale Fountain, sits in the middle of a quiet plaza with a stone basin guarded by bronze figures of frogs, fish, and children. Sculpted by Friedrich Christoph Hausmann in nineteen ten, the fountain captures scenes from German folklore, including the Frog Prince. During the second world war, the bronze statues disappeared, and for decades the stone structure stood empty. In two thousand two, the city finished a recreation of the lost bronzes, returning the fountain to its original design.
