Museum of World Cultures

The Museum of World Cultures occupies three connected nineteenth century villas on the banks of the Main River. Its distinctive white facades feature intricately carved wooden balconies and tall, arched windows that face the water. Behind these walls, the museum houses over seventy thousand artifacts collected by explorers and travelers over the last two centuries. One evening in nineteen forty-three, a fire ignited by an air raid destroyed nearly half of the collection, yet the staff managed to save what remains today.
