The Bank Melli building in Shiraz features a distinctive facade that borrows heavily from Achaemenid architecture. Its stone columns, topped with bull-headed capitals, mimic the ruins found at nearby Persepolis. When the bank commissioned this design, they wanted to anchor the financial institution in the deep history of the region. A man named Andre Godard, a French architect who spent decades overseeing excavations in Iran, helped translate these ancient motifs into a functional modern office building for banking operations.
