The Jaffa Clock Tower rises from the center of the road as a limestone stack of arches and balustrades. Built in nineteen oh three, it marked the Sultan Abdul Hamid the second’s twenty-fifth year on the throne. Joseph Moyal, a local merchant, led the fundraising effort to honor the Ottoman ruler, proving that merchants held the true power in the city at the time. It became the neighborhood’s beating heart, anchoring the bustling trade route between the port and the inland city of Jerusalem.
