The Shalom Meir Tower is a white, rectangular skyscraper covered in mosaic tiles, rising sharply above the center of Tel Aviv. It replaced the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium, the first Hebrew-language high school in the country. When the school was demolished in nineteen sixty-two, the public outcry was immense, as it was considered a foundational building of the city. Construction of the tower finished in nineteen sixty-five, and for over two decades, it remained the tallest building in all of Israel.
