The Central Methodist Mission sits on Greenmarket Square, marked by a sturdy, cream-colored stone facade and a series of tall, arched windows that have defined this corner since nineteen oh five. It replaced an earlier chapel that stood here when the square was a bustling slave market. During the height of apartheid, Reverend Alan Boesak used this pulpit to help launch the United Democratic Front, turning the sanctuary into a center for peaceful resistance while police cordoned off the streets outside.
