Dutch Reformed

The Moederkerk, or Mother Church, is defined by its massive neo-Gothic facade and the soaring, pointed spire that anchors the town center. Completed in eighteen sixty-three, this building serves as the oldest Dutch Reformed congregation in the region. The architect, Carl Otto Hager, modeled the design after churches in Cologne, Germany. When the original structure required expansion, the local congregants insisted on these dramatic vertical lines, creating a distinct silhouette that has remained unchanged for over one hundred and sixty years.
