Old Main Building (Law)

The Old Main Building in Stellenbosch features a distinctive, bright white facade punctuated by dark wood shutters and a towering gabled roof. Built in nineteen eighty-six to house the university's law faculty, the structure replaced an earlier building destroyed by fire. Architecturally, it blends Cape Dutch elements with later stylistic influences. When the structure opened, students famously staged a protest on the steps, demanding the university open its doors to students of all races during the height of the apartheid era.
