Stellenbosch Museum Voorgelegen

The Voorgelegen house stands out for its high, clipped hedge and the distinct white gables characteristic of Cape Dutch architecture. Built in seventeen ninety-one, this home once served as a private residence before becoming part of the Stellenbosch Museum. In the nineteenth century, the owner, Reverend Meiring, famously used the parlor to host local meetings during the tense lead-up to the Anglo-Boer War. The heavy front door still carries the marks of those gatherings, where the town’s future was often decided.
