Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden

The Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden holds the title of the oldest university botanical garden in South Africa. Its most striking feature is a Victorian-style glass conservatory, built in nineteen twenty-four, which houses an extensive collection of tropical plants. The garden serves primarily as a research site for university staff and students. In nineteen twenty-two, professor Ben Theron established the space to provide a controlled environment for botanical study, eventually filling these beds with specimens gathered from expeditions across the southern African region.
