British Colonial Nassau

The British Colonial hotel sits on the shoreline with a distinct cream-colored facade and a wide, U-shaped footprint that faces the harbor. It occupies the site of Old Fort Nassau, a defensive position that once guarded the island from pirates and privateers. In the nineteen twenties, Sir Harry Oakes transformed the property into a luxury resort. He used the hotel to host elaborate parties, even keeping a private suite where he famously counted his gold bullion while sipping scotch in his pajamas.
