St. John's Native Baptist Cathedral

St. John’s Native Baptist Cathedral is marked by its pale pink exterior and the two prominent square towers that flank its entrance. Founded in eighteen thirty-three, the congregation formed when Bahamians of African descent broke away from the established colonial churches to create their own religious identity. In the early days, members gathered under trees to worship before they raised these walls. Prince William, the congregation’s first leader, served as a former enslaved person who guided his community through their independence.
