Gregory's Arch

Gregory's Arch is a limestone passage carved directly through the hill that divides downtown Nassau from the residential areas to the south. It serves as the historic threshold between the old city and the outskirts. Named for John Gregory, a colonial governor from the eighteen thirties, the arch is a natural gateway. Legend claims that if you hold your breath while walking through the span, you will receive a wish. Locals still pause there, mid-stride, keeping their secrets under the rock.
