Hillside House is a two-story limestone building on Cumberland Street characterized by its wide, wrap-around veranda and distinctive wooden shutters that have survived centuries of Atlantic storms. Built in the mid-eighteenth century, it originally served as a private residence for prominent colonial families before shifting into a center for the local art community. In nineteen ninety, the owner, Antonius Roberts, moved in to transform the dilapidated structure into a studio, stripping back layers of paint to reveal the original masonry.
