Pirates of Nassau

The Pirates of Nassau museum occupies a replica of an eighteenth century wooden ship, the Revenge, permanently docked in a concrete harbor in the heart of downtown. This site highlights the era when Nassau served as a base for privateers and outlaws who ruled the Caribbean sea lanes. Governor Woodes Rogers arrived here in seventeen eighteen to offer a pardon to those who surrendered, while hanging those who refused. He famously carried a sword in one hand and a royal decree in the other.
