Southern Recreation Grounds

The Southern Recreation Grounds feature a wide, flat expanse of green grass defined by its long history as the primary gathering point for the residents of Nassau's Over-the-Hill neighborhoods. Known locally as The Big Pond, this site served as a vital venue for political rallies, sports, and community celebrations for generations. In nineteen sixty-seven, thousands crowded onto this field to hear Lynden Pindling speak during the intense lead-up to the general election that eventually brought majority rule to the country.
