Ebenezer Baptist Church

religious

The Ebenezer Baptist Church features a distinctive orange brick facade and a wide, triangular gable that defines the streetscape of Auburn Avenue. This building served as the spiritual home for Martin Luther King Junior, who was baptized, ordained, and served as co-pastor here alongside his father. In nineteen sixty-eight, the church held King’s funeral service. A woman named Alberta Williams King, the civil rights leader’s mother, played the organ here for decades until her death inside the sanctuary in nineteen seventy-four.
