Odd Fellows Building and Auditorium

The Odd Fellows Building and Auditorium on Auburn Avenue features a facade of dark red brick trimmed with ornate terra cotta. Built in nineteen twelve, it served as the headquarters for the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, a fraternal society that provided insurance and financial security to Black residents during the segregation era. When the auditorium opened, it became a cultural anchor for the neighborhood, hosting everything from jazz musicians like Bessie Smith to vital community meetings that helped define the city's future.
