The Georgia Aquarium is marked by a massive, prow-like structure of blue glass and white metal that stretches across the street corner, mimicking the shape of a ship. It was built with a gift of two hundred fifty million dollars from Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, who wanted to create a world-class attraction for downtown Atlanta. The building holds over eleven million gallons of water, housing whale sharks that were brought from Taiwan in custom-made transport tanks carried by specially equipped cargo planes.
