The Peachtree Center MARTA station is defined by its cavernous, arched ceiling of raw, exposed rock. Engineers blasted this space deep into the city's bedrock in the nineteen seventies, leaving the granite walls jagged and unrefined. During construction, workers used high-pressure water to blast away loose debris, revealing the natural composition of the earth beneath downtown Atlanta. Today, travelers pass through this massive, hollowed-out tunnel to reach the trains, surrounded by the subterranean geology that supports the skyscrapers far above.
