The Apex Museum occupies a slender, three-story building on Auburn Avenue, distinguished by its vibrant, multi-colored exterior mural that stretches across the brickwork. It opened in nineteen seventy-eight as the African American Panoramic Experience. Founder Dan Moore started the museum in a tiny space nearby to showcase local history that mainstream institutions ignored. He wanted a dedicated venue for the stories of Black residents in Atlanta, moving his collection into this permanent home after years of gathering artifacts from basements and attics.
