The National Center for Civil and Human Rights features a sweeping, curved roofline designed to mimic two cupped hands. This architecture honors the center’s mission to provide shelter and sanctuary for the global struggle for equality. Inside, the exhibits bridge the American Civil Rights Movement with modern human rights efforts worldwide. Civil rights leader Evelyn Lowery once described the movement as a passing of the torch, and this building houses the personal papers of Martin Luther King Junior, kept safely in a climate-controlled vault.
