The Hub at Peachtree Center features three levels of walkways and restaurants tucked beneath the street, all sheltered by a massive, tiered glass roof. Architect John Portman designed this space in the nineteen sixties to connect Atlanta’s downtown hotels and office towers through an underground network. He wanted people to escape the noise and heat of the city above. While construction crews dug into the bedrock, they unearthed the original stone foundations of a nineteenth century rail yard that once occupied this block.
