Quai Lunel features a distinctive stone quay wall that runs along the western edge of the Port of Nice. Built during the nineteenth century, the wall served as a reinforced docking point for ships arriving from across the Mediterranean. In eighteen sixty-two, workers discovered the skeletal remains of a prehistoric elephant buried deep beneath the silt while excavating this foundation. These bones now sit in the local natural history museum, marking the site as a rare intersection of maritime commerce and ancient geological history.
