The Jardin du Centenaire is an anomaly in the dense urban landscape of Malakoff. Inaugurated in 1983 to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the town's founding, it was built entirely from scratch in an area where green space is exceptionally rare. Because the city was already heavily developed, designers had to acquire surrounding land bit by bit over twenty-five years to shape the park into its current form. It serves as a quiet landmark of the city's commitment to creating public spaces where there was once only concrete.
