The Maison des Arts sits on land originally known as the Remise de l Orme, a site that once served as a hunting ground for King Louis the Fifteenth. In the eighteenth century, the property was filled with groves of trees intended to shelter game for the royal hunts. By the nineteenth century, the land had shifted from royal hunting grounds to a working farm owned by a market gardener. The current mansion was built on this site around 1845, originally serving as a storehouse, an orangerie, and a private billiard room for its owner, a merchant named Monsieur Bertault.
