Jardin Mário Soares

The Jardin Mário Soares occupies a steep slope in Belleville, marked by a series of terraced wooden platforms that follow the incline. This green space commemorates the former Portuguese president who lived in political exile in France during the nineteen seventies. The garden replaced a cluster of crumbling nineteenth-century tenements that once stood here. The metal stairs and wooden boardwalks offer a direct path up the hillside, connecting the lower streets to the higher ground of the neighborhood above.
