The Palais Almeida at Brienner Straße twenty wears a facade of heavy, rusticated stone that contrasts with the lighter, classical lines of its neighbors. Built in the mid-nineteenth century, it served as the residence for the Portuguese envoy to the Bavarian court. During the nineteen thirties, the Nazi Party moved into the building, turning this private mansion into a hub for their administrative operations. A stone balcony remains, one where high-ranking officials once addressed crowds gathered on the street below.
