Hamilton House is a three-story building in the Ballard Estate business district, identifiable by its bright yellow facade and the heavy, arched colonnades that line its ground floor. Built in nineteen twenty-seven, it served as the original headquarters for the British shipping company Mackinnon Mackenzie and Company. Arthur George Paton, who managed the company, had the structure designed to project permanence and corporate stability. The building still houses commercial offices today, exactly as it did when steamships dominated the harbor trade.
