Port Bhavan anchors the corner of Ballard Estate with its distinct yellow-painted facade and heavy, classical stone detailing. Originally built for the Bombay Port Trust, this building functioned as the administrative heart for the city's massive maritime trade expansion in the early twentieth century. George Wittet designed the structure, wrapping its solid masonry in the Edwardian Baroque style that defined the neighborhood. Within these walls, clerks once processed the endless manifests and shipping logs that transformed Mumbai into a global gateway.
