Yazdani Restaurant & Bakery

The faded sign above the entrance reads Yazdani Restaurant and Bakery, but the smell of baking bread gives it away first. Opened by a Zoroastrian immigrant in nineteen fifty-three, this bakery occupies a space that once served as a Japanese bank. The old iron vault still stands in the back, repurposed to store bags of flour and sugar. Tables are worn smooth by decades of morning commuters drinking cups of strong, sweet tea and tearing into fresh, buttery brun pav.
